Bring the wife to see First Folio Theatre’s outdoor production of “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” at the historic Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Plus Chicago Hotel at Hillside!
In “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” Sir John Falstaff, Shakespeare’s most comic character, sets out to seduce two wealthy women—at the same time. The women find out (of course!) and turn the tabs on Sir John, with hilarity ensuing.
First Folio Theatre has been producing plays at the Mayslake Peabody Estate, a Tudor-style mansion with 30 rooms, since 1997. The Equity theatre has two indoor stages and an outdoor performance space. “. . . plenty of greenery, gentle breezes and the chance to stretch out on a blanket with family and friends while being transported to Shakespeare’s otherworldly romance.” The Chicago Tribune.
Make a day of it by touring the Mayslake Peabody estate (the wife and daughter were both named May), picnicking in the adjacent Mayslake Forest Preserve, fishing in one of the many ponds, and hiking through the restored prairie and wetlands!
“The Merry Wives of Windsor” plays Tuesday through Sunday at 8:15 pm through August 10. The Mayslake Peabody Estate is located at 1717 West 31st Street in Oak Brook. Boxed suppers are available. For tickets call (630) 986-8067.
