Culture Club with Boy George

Say “oh boy” to Boy George as the Culture Club appears at the Chicago Theatre July 22, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Plus Chicago Hotel at Hillside!

Yes, those Brit rascals from the 80s, Culture Club with Boy George, have reunited and are starting a US and Canada tour! Once upon a time, Boy George’s cross dressing and heavy makeup were shocking. Now everybody is like that!

Culture Club had seven straight hit songs in England and nine Top 10 singles in the US. Their hit single “Time (Clock of the Heart)” is listed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s top 500 songs that shaped rock and roll. Only the Beatles surpass that record! The band named itself to reflect an Irish cross dresser, a black, a Jew and an Englishman.

Boy George, who now refers to himself as “old fashioned,” was heavily influenced by the music of David Bowie and Patti Smith. He has written three books. In 2016, he appeared as a mentor in the British version of “The Voice.”

The Chicago Theatre, an architectural wonder from the early 20th century, is located at 175 North State Street, in the heart of Chicago’s Loop. For tickets, go online to www.thechicagotheatre.com and follow the prompts. Note: For a special additional fee, ticket holders may meet Boy George at a VIP reception.
