Cider Summit Chicago will feature over 150 ciders, available in four ounce portions, from England, Scotland, France and Spain, as well as regional ciders from around the US. There will be two seatings: 11am-3pm, 4pm-8pm. Special food pairings will be served. Owners and cider makers will be on hand to talk about the art of distilling. Adults only. Admission includes a souvenir tasting glass and eight tasting tickets. There is a special admission of five dollars for designated drivers.
Cider as a beverage dates back to well before the Norman Conquests in the United Kingdom. The Romans introduced orchard keeping, and Northern France and Southern England (their climates were unsuitable for grape growing) developed regional ciders from apple varietals. Farm workers of the time received as much as one-fifth of their wages in cider.
