Cher has become as American as apple pie. She has been hoofing and goofing and acting and singing for five decades. Cherilyn Sarkisian started out as one half of Sonny and Cher, a most improbable duo that became big TV stars with the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Cher became known for her elaborate outfits.
Her early solo songs, “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves,” “Half Breed,” and “Dark Lady” all became Billboard Top 100 hits. After divorcing Sonny, Cher signed a huge contract to play in Las Vegas, working for three straight years in residence. Her 2013 album, “Closer to the Truth,” was the highest charting album of her career.
Cher became a serious actress, starring in “Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean” on Broadway, then the three successful films, “Silkwood,” “Mask,” and “Moonstruck.” She has won a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Cannes Film Festival Award.
The United Center is located at 1901 West Madison Street in Chicago. For tickets to see Cher, go online to http://www.ticketmaster.com/Cher-tickets/artist/734742.
