West Side Story

“Tonight, tonight, won’t be just any night” if you come to the Drury Lane Theatre’s production of “West Side Story” through March 29, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Plus Chicago Hotel at Hillside!

You and your family will not want to miss this stellar production of the American classic musical, “West Side Story,” with its unforgettable music score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim! “I Feel Pretty;” “America;” “Tonight;” “Somewhere.” These are some of the greatest American popular songs.

“Grand-scale, emotionally wrenching production.” Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun Times.

“West Side Story” takes Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” and sets the tale in 1950s  New York City. Instead of the warring families Montague and Capulet, we see the rival gangs, the Sharks and the Jets and their leaders, Bernardo and Tony, Puerto Rican and white. At a high school dance, Tony meets Bernardo’s sister Maria and it is forbidden love at first sight, and the love affair will not end well.

This is Drury Lane Theatre’s 30th season. In a region where live theatre flourishes, the Drury Lane stands out as one of the top ten Actor’s Equity venues of Chicagoland.
