The Waco Brothers

If you’re hungry for punk country music (that’s right, bucko: punk country) come see The Waco Brothers CD Release Party at Fitzgerald’s Night Club February 26, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Plus Chicago Hotel at Hillside!

The Waco Brothers founder, Jon Langford, of the infamous Brit “cow punk” band The Mekons, decided to mix two seemingly unlikely forms of music: punk and country into a style called “Three Chords and The Truth.” The band’s songs have been called indelicate and raucous.

The Waco Brothers new album, “Going Down in History,” is a compilation of their live concerts from the past year. Think Cash (Johnny) meets Clash (the band), and you’re in for the ride. The album title refers to the title song with its lyric: “You gotta walk before you can fall down on your face.” True, dat.

“Country as it should be written and played, with a long memory for roadhouse honky-tonks rather than TV-ready music videos.” Ken Tucker, music critic for NPR’s “Fresh Air.”

Fitzgerald’s Night Club (“a musical gem,” The New York Times) is at 6615 West Roosevelt Road, just south of Oak Park. For tickets, go online to www.fitzgeraldsnightclub.com.

Best Western Plus Chicago Hotel at Hillside, just a short drive to Fitzgerald’s Night Club, provides free shuttle service to and from O’Hare Airport in Chicago. The hotel offers affordable, comfortable rooms, a breakfast bar and restaurant and much more. The hotel is pet friendly and offers AAA rates.
