Tattoo at the Field Museum

Come to Chicago to see the show “Tattoo,” at the Field Museum through April 30, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Plus Chicago Hotel at Hillside!

Since the dawn of mankind, in every culture, humans have been decorating their bodies, whether for a sacred rite, a message or a symbol of event or achievement. The Field Museum presents “Tattoo,” an exploration of tattoos from around the world.

Skin and ink tattooing has been around for 5,000 years. Explore the cultures, practices and objects connected by ink in “Tattoo.” See fifteen life-size forms made from silicone and decorated by guest artists. Learn about the tools used in tattoo making, from cactus needles to hand tapping to the evolution of the electric tattoo machine. Learn about modern tattoo artists who incorporate ancient symbols in contemporary tattooing.

A temporary tattoo shop is located at the Field. Zach Stuka of Deluxe Tattoo, and Stephanie Brown of Butter Fat Studios will offer forty-two pre-drawn forms for you to choose from. To sign up for a tattoo appointment, call (312) 778-5040. Make a reservation well before your visit, as the appointments are piling up.

The Field Museum is located at 1400 South Lake Shore Drive as part of the museum campus. For tickets, go online to https://www.fieldmuseum.org/discover/on-exhibit/tattoo/ and follow the prompts.
