Neil Simon’s “Laughter On the 23rd Floor”

Come to First Folio Theatre’s production of Neil Simon’s hilarious “Laughter on the 23rd Floor,” opening January 28, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Plus Chicago Hotel at Hillside!

“Laughter on the 23rd Floor” is playwright Simon’s homage to the early days of television, when Simon broke in to comedy writing on the comic genius Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows.”  What a dream team of writers: Neil and Danny Simon, Mel Brooks, Larry Gelbart, Woody Allan, and Mel Tolkin.

The plot: A group of writers plan, write sketch comedy, perform for each other and fight with NBC executives, who fear that “Your Show of Shows” will offend Middle America. The characters are based on their real life counterparts.

87-year-old Neil Simon is a Broadway legend and an American treasure. He has written more than thirty plays, many of them autobiographical. He holds the record for Oscar and Tony nominations for any living writer. His classic plays include, “The Odd Couple,” “The Goodbye Girl,” “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” “Biloxi Blues,” and “Murder by Death.”

First Folio Theatre is located at the historic Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 West 31st Street in Oak Brook. For tickets and more information, call (630) 986-8067.
