“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” was the first so-called rock opera written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The show plays somewhere in the world every day of the year. The show opened off-Broadway in 1982 after the success of the duo’s next hit, “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Donny Osmond was the star. It received nine Tony Award nominations.

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” tells the biblical story (more or less) of Joseph in Genesis. His brothers didn’t care for his coat of many colors, so they plotted to make their brother a slave. By the end of the show, the brothers have repented, like brothers in real life (not), and Joseph returns to his family bruised but unbroken.
