Earth, Wind & Fire began its band life in 1969 in Chicago. Their music contains homage to African, Latin, funk, disco, soul and jazz music. Their albums have sold over 100,000,000 copies worldwide, making them the seventh highest selling band of all time. The group’s early hits include “Shining Star,” “That’s the Way of the World,” “Devotion,” “Reasons,” and “Can’t Hide Love.” They were the first African American group to sell out Madison Square Garden. Earth, Wind & Fire’s resume is quite impressive. The black pop group has won six Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards. They are in three halls of fame: Songwriter’s, Rock and Roll, and Vocal Group. The great Miles Davis said that Earth, Wind & Fire was his favorite group. Rolling Stone wrote: “innovative, precise yet sensual, calculated yet galvanizing.”
