“Chicago” the Musical

Come to the Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook to see the smash hit musical “Chicago” May 1 through June 18, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Plus Chicago Hotel at Hillside!

“Chicago” has had a long run, starting in 1975, starring Broadway legends Chita Rivera and Gwen Verdon. The 1996 revival, starring Bebe Neuwirth of “Frazier” fame and the legendary Joel Gray, won 15 Tony Awards. The 2002 Oscar-winning film starred Catherine Zeta-Jones, Rene Zellweger and Richard Gere.

The stage show is presented cabaret-style and is filled with memorable music and dance, containing such song hits as “All That Jazz,” “Roxie,” and “A Little Bit of Good.” The show is not recommended for kids under 13, due to adult themes and situations.

“Chicago’s” book is based on a Chicago Tribune true account of two murders committed by women, in the Jazz Age. All-men juries of that period were reluctant to convict women, as the penalty for murder was hanging. In the musical, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly are nightclub performers who both killed cheating husbands. In the end, the gals escape the gallows.

The Drury Lane Theatre is located at 100 Drury Lane Road in Oakbrook Terrace. For tickets to see “Chicago,” go online to http://www.ticketmaster.com/Drury-Lane-Theatre-Presents-Chicago-tickets/artist/2315334 and follow the prompts.
